Michael, a choice between two bikes usually comes down to the difference in fit and components.

The 2010 Trinity 0 has nicer wheels (for racing, at least) and slightly nicer componentry (though I'm not a fan of the 53/42 crankset on the Giant, I'd love to see compact cranks come standard on all tri bikes). So, edge to Giant in components.

The 2010 Felt B16 is a longer and lower bike than the Giant. Depending on your morphology, this could be either good or bad. Also, the Felt's smallest size comes with 650c wheels, a big plus for smaller riders. When you also consider the B16's frame is 100% carbon fiber (and the Trinity 0 only includes half carbon fiber tubing), I'd give a slight edge to the Felt in fit.

The MSRP on the Felt is a bit higher than the Trinity 0, so if there's a price difference at your LBS, that's something to consider as well. All in all, you have a tough decision on your hands :)

shanyliz, The P3 is a fine bike. I didn't list it for two reasons:

It's not really a new bike. Though other bikes on this list are also not new, the P3 has been around for a while, and I wanted to showcase good bikes that are either new or not as ubiquitous as the P3.

It's a bit expensive. Though I did include a few "superbikes" on this list, I wanted to focus on bikes with costs accessible to a lower budget.

Thanks for your comment. You can't go wrong with a P3 (or any of Cervelo's triathlon bikes)!

Great article, my wife and I just finished our first triathlon riding hybrids and we are ready to invest in a triathlon bike. I am ready to spend around 2k on each for a bike. I realize you ranked them already, but head to head if you had to choose between the Felt B16 and the Giant Trinity 0, which one would you buy? Any other advice on selecting a bike would be greatly appreciated.

What about the WSD Specialized Dolce? It is a little lower in the price range? Is there a reason you did not list it?

Thanks,

I have had a Specialized Dolce for a few years and used it for my first sprint tri through my first Ironman. I used clip-on aerobars and got it custom fit to me, and have never felt comfortable on it. I'm actually on this website looking at what I might switch into. Meanwhile, my Specialized Dolce is still in pieces in my garage after my last race!

Hope, thanks for your comment. The Dolce is not a triathlon bike--it's actually a road bike. It's not designed around aerobars the way a triathlon specific bike is. That's why it didn't get a spot on my list. In fact, with the exception of my #1 recommendation (which is basically any road bike that fits you + clip-on aerobars), no road bikes got a mention on the list! That was intentional.

However, if you're looking for a road bike to do some all-purpose road riding, including group rides, fitness rides and perhaps a triathlon or two, then the Dolce will probably be a fine bike for you. It's also reasonably cheap!
